Even if you’re a masking newbie, chances are you’ve used a clay mask before. Sheet masks and bubble masks may be trending now, but clay masks have a long and distinguished history in skincare. In fact, the healing powers of clay are nothing new--clay has been applied to skin for cosmetic and medicinal purposes dating back to ancient times. A good clay mask can draw out impurities, absorb excess oil, brighten dull skin and help reduce clogged pores. This week, we wrap up our essential face mask series with an in-depth look at our clarifying clay mask, a tried-and-true bestseller that exfoliates as it deep cleanses.
just to clarify.
Clay masks are commonly used on oily or acne-prone skin because they help reduce excess shine, but the truth is, all skin types could benefit from one. Made with natural bentonite minerals and kaolin clays, our clarifying clay mask purifies skin, absorbs impurities and minimizes the look of pores. A concentrated blend of five botanical extracts and natural pumice polishes away dead skin while glycerin and sunflower seed fatty acids moisturize, protect and soothe, making it gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. Anti-bacterial witch hazel and arnica extract minimize redness and inflammation.
step by step.
While clay masks can be used by every skin type, how often you use them may vary. Oiler skin types may benefit from a clay mask several times a week while normal or dryer skin types can use it once or twice a week. For best results, cleanse skin first to remove dirt, oil and makeup. Apply a thin, even layer of clarifying clay mask. Allow to dry for 10 minutes, then dampen hands and gently massage skin in circular motions. Rinse off with water or remove with a warm, damp washcloth.
double up.
By now, you may have realized that two masks are better than one. Sometimes, the best skin treatment may be to multi-mask or layer your masks. Create a customized treatment by applying a different mask to different areas of the face depending on its specific needs. For example, you may want to apply the clarifying clay mask to your t-zone to reduce oil and shine and the brightening enzyme mask to your cheeks for a radiance boost.
